Enhancing efficiency of training at the Indian Air Force Station at Tambaram would be his top priority, said Air Commodore T K Varma, who assumed charge on Monday as Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of the station.

"The IAF Tambaram is a premiere training institute and I will make all efforts to maintain the status," he told reporters after taking over from Air Commodore M S Ahluwalia.

 Army to field Dozen Arjun tanks in Ashwamedha war games


The Army is fielding the indigenous Arjun tanks for the first time in simulated war games in the deserts of Rajasthan beginning on Sunday.

A sub-unit'' of about a dozen Arjun tanks has been fielded along with Russian-origin tanks for the exercise codenamed 'Ashwamedha' to test new equipment and concepts in searing heat, said anonymous Army sources.

Ahead of talks between India and the U.S. here next week on the civil nuclear issue, a senior American official has sought to put the onus on New Delhi, saying it should "move quickly" to help complete a bilateral agreement to make the initiative a reality.

Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns also said the two nations must take "two more giant steps" to achieve a global partnership increasing cooperation in fighting terrorism and creating a "stronger military partnership."

The Mathura-based 1 Corps, one of the Indian Army's three strike Corps, is all set to roll out the most high-tech war games ever conducted by the Indian Army, through an exercise codenamed 'Ashwamedh.'
