 Lockheed Martin and FICCI programme for Indian technologies and entrepreneurs


US defence and aerospace major, Lockheed Martin, launched a programme Tuesday that aims at accelerating Indian technologies into US markets and other parts of the world. It said that it would conduct the programme in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and Texas University.

 NAL/DRDO to organize micro air vehicles demonstration for US Army


According to a news report in aviation news journal Flight Global, India's aerospace research laboratory, the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), is going to organize a demonstration of micro air vehicles (MAVs) in an urban environment in March 2008 for the US Army. The demonstration will most likely take place at an Indian defence facility in Agra in the northern part of India.

India : ISRO to launch another commercial satellite in 2007

Like children firing Diwali rockets, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch more commercial satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre this year.

According to chairman G Madhvan Nair, ISRO has planned three more launches this year out of which one will be a fully commercial flight. Curiously all of them will be historic.

India : Indian, Russian navies launch wargames in sea of Japan

Naval ships of India and Russia On Tuesday launched their three-day joint war games in the sea of Japan in Russia's far east to hone skills to counter terror threats on high seas and destroy enemy submarines.

The war games codenamed Indra-2007 are aimed at practicing cooperative engagement in the fight against terrorism, Russian pacific fleet said in its press release. It is the third such joint exercise since 2003.

India : 110 foreign military officers on India tour

Over 100 military officers from France, Russia, South Africa and other countries are currently visiting India to study the regional security scenario and gauge the country's potential as an emerging global power.

"During this visit, we will study the regional security scenario and India's engagement with the rest of the world," French Rear Admiral Svend-Erik Estellon, who leads the 110-strong delegation, said at a select media briefing here.

Addressing a press conference after PSLV-C8 successfully put AGILE in a 549-km circular orbit at an angle of 2.47 deg to the equator, Mr Nair said the premium was charged because the launcher had to be stripped down and the orbit had to be precise.

Antrix Corporation, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has got a premium rate of US $29,000 a kg

 US Navy Blue Angels crash kills pilot at S.C. air show


A US Navy jet crashed during an air show, plunging into a neighbourhood of small homes and trailers and killing the pilot, the county coroner said.

Witnesses said the planes were flying in formation during the show on Saturday at the Marine Corps Air Station and one dropped below the trees and crashed, sending up clouds of smoke. At least one home was on fire.

India : PSLV-C8 blasts off with Italian payload

PSLV-C8 blasted off into space carrying an Italian astronomical satellite, AGILE, from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Monday, marking India's first fully commercial launch.

Scientists cheered as the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, in its 11th flight, soared into the clear sky in a perfect lift-off around 1530 hours from the space port, about 100 km north of Chennai.

Asia&pacific : Russia starts developing new strategic bomber

Russia has started to develop a new type of strategic bomber amid Russia-U.S. disputes on anti- missile system deployment in central Europe, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Saturday.

The research work has been launched and the new generation of aircraft is expected to be put into service in 10 years, Itar-Tass said, quoting Deputy Long-Range Aviation Commander Anatoly Zhikharev as saying.
