A fourth-generation strategic nuclear submarine was launched during a special ceremony at a shipbuilding yard in northern Russia Sunday.
The Yury Dolgoruky, a Borey-class nuclear missile submarine, was built at the Sevmash plant in the northern Arkhangelsk Region. It will be equipped with the Bulava ballistic missile, which is adapted from the Topol-M (SS-27).
Russia and India will conduct joint naval counter-terrorism exercises in the Sea of Japan on April 24-26, the press service of Russia's Pacific Fleet said Tuesday.
INDRA-2007 is a biennial joint exercise between the Russian and Indian navies aimed at practicing cooperative engagement in the fight against terrorism. It is the third such exercise since 2003.
The source said Russia will be represented by two large anti-submarine ships, a missile boat, a diesel submarine, a group of mine-sweepers, a tanker, two tug boats, two Ka-27 Helix helicopters and an Il-38 May maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft.

Close on the heels of the success of the intermediate range ballistic missile Agni-III, defence scientists plan to carry out the second test of the indigenous missile defence system in another four months.
“The second test of the interceptor is being planned by August-September. But this time it will be an endo-atmospheric test, in which the interceptor will destroy the enemy missile in lower atmosphere,” said Dr M Natarajan, the scientific advisor to the defence minister and the director-general of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Russia will shortly begin supply of 38 Smerch-M 300mm BM9A52-2 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to India under a $450 million deal signed two years ago, according to Russian media reports. Reports in the Russian media also suggest that Rosoboronexport, Russia's monopoly arms export agency, also signed a new option contract last week with the Indian defense ministry for delivery of an additional $300 million worth of these systems.

Russia is planning to purchase several dozens of the Ka-50 Black Shark and Ka-52 Alligator helicopters to boost operations of special forces, the ITAR-TASS news agency said Wednesday. Series manufacture for Ka-50/52 helicopters resumed at a plant in Arsenyev last year after a lengthy downtime.
