Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major, on Thursday said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) has big plans for transformation from regional reach to global in coming years.

"Acquisitions, modernisation, better technology and space-based assets is our goal and we are moving towards that. We are a regional power and the fourth largest air force in the world," he told reporters after the passing out parade of the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla.

India : US to sell India six Hercules planes for USD 1 bn

United States has offered India a $1,059 million deal to sell six C-130J Hercules aircraft with associated equipment and services to provide it special operations airlift capability and ensure interoperability with American forces in coalition operations.

The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced Tuesday that it had notified Congress of India's request for the sale of six Lockheed Martin C-130J aircraft as required by US law.

It appears to be a season of retirement for the frontline fighters of the Indian Air Force. First to go was the MiG-25 Foxbat of 102 Squadron, based in Bareilly, which bid adieu on May 1, 2006. An aircraft with a high-altitude photo reconnaissance capacity, its retirement reduced the IAF’s advantage in intelligence gathering and aerial reconnaissance. The main reasons for its retirement were high maintenance cost and lack of spare parts. The MiG-25R, however, did not leave behind any worthy successor to match its spectacular performance of 25 years.

India : India Finalizes Mirage Upgrade Deal

India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and France’s Dassault Aviation will work together to upgrade 52 Indian Air Force Mirage 2000-H aircraft. The $800 million deal has been finalized and the contract will be signed in 2007, a Defence Ministry official here said.
Dassault will upgrade the first two Mirages in France, where HAL engineers will participate in the work. The new avionics, to be bought from Israel, will be installed on the Mirages at HAL facilities in India.

US Navy warships on a friendly visit to Goa


Two US Navy warships have docked here on a friendly port visit to India.
During the four-day visit, crewmembers of 'USS Chosin' and 'USS Milius' will interact with their Indian counterparts, participate in friendship building activities, will meet locals, and experience the Goan customs and tradition.

Commanding Officer of the USS Chosin Captain Steven A. Lott said the main aim of the visit is to further friendly relations between the two navies.
