India’s defence-related purchases in Israel over the past five years have reached a massive $5 billion. Defence Minister AK Anton told the Rajya Sabha here on Wednesday that Israeli company M/s ELTA was the lowest bidder in response to a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued for the procurement of some radars for the Indian Air Force. “No contract has been signed with the firm yet,” he said. The ELTA radars could be integrated into India’s Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas, which is an advanced, supersonic and multi-role fighter. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has also concluded deals with two Israeli firms to make flight simulators and airframes for transport planes. iftikhar gilani |
