 Airbus A380 super jumbo lands at Delhi Airport

The Airbus 380 super jumbo, the world's largest passenger aircraft, will land for the first time in India on Sunday, 6 May 2007 at the New Delhi international airport.

Currently, only the Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi airports are capable of landing the A380, which is being configured to carry as many as 555 passengers in a standard seating format. The size of the aircraft, as well as its passenger load, means that airports around the world are trying to figure out ways to accommodate the plane and handle

Indian Army Vice Chief visits Bhutan


His Majesty the King granted an audience to Lieutenant General Deepak Kapoor, the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Army on Thursday, May 3.

Lt. General Deepak Kapoor’s visit to Bhutan is the first visit to any foreign country after he assumed the post of the Vice Chief in January of this year. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Kirti Kapoor on the three-day visit.

India : Joint Army training exercise begins

The Indian Army is engaging in a joint training exercise with the Maldivian National Defence Forces (MNDF), which includes a two-day counter-terrorist exercise.

The week-long exercise began on Saturday, a statement issued here said.

Codenamed Ekuverin, an infantry battalion of the Southern Command is involved in the exercise on the Indian side.

Indian Army prepares for Prithvi-1 trial

The Indian Army is all set to test the surface-to-surface medium range Prithvi-1 missile next week, say officials.
The missile, which went into production after a series of testing, will be launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located at Chandipur in Orissa's Balasore district.

"This is a limited stock production (LSP) test by the users (Indian Army). A Prithvi-1 missile has been randomly selected from the already prepared missiles and will be used for the test," an official source told the media.

The $40-billion defence and aerospace major Lockheed Martin is in talks with Indian IT major Wipro Technologies for a technical alliance , as it goes about tapping the growing Indian defence market.

According to sources, Lockheed Martin is in the race to meet C4ISR-related requirements of the India Air Force (IAF). The C4ISR programme integrates data and information sources on a single network platform during any kind of combat situation . After 36 years of service in the Indian army, the government has decided to give over Rs 1 crore in back pay to Field Marshall Sam Maneckshaw. So, does this mean, they are acknowledging that he was shabbily treated? If so, why did that happen and did it have something to do with Maneckshaw himself, or not?
