A fleet of aircraft from the Indian Air Force (IAF) has touched down at the Waddington airbase in Lincolnshire to participate in a joint exercise with the Royal Air Force (RAF).

IAF's 126 jets tender could get nod Friday


A long-delayed Indian Air Force (IAF) global tender for 126 combat jets is likely to get the defence ministry's nod Friday and could be issued within a week, an official said.

The ministry's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the final word on the subject, is meeting here Friday afternoon and the only item on the agenda is believed to be the IAF's request for proposals to six manufacturers for a medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA).

Russia has begun mass production of Topol-M strategic missiles, the country’s First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said June 26.
“We are now moving on to a new and very important rearmament stage for both our nuclear strategic forces and our tactical complexes,” he said at the plant at Votkinsk in Udmurtia, some 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) east of Moscow, quoted by the Interfax news agency.

Indian Air Force pilots have begun training on the new British-made Hawk jets that will be inducted into the force later this year.

Till last month, IAF pilots sent to the Valley airbase in Wales were being trained on the Royal Air Force's older generation of Hawk jets. A group of IAF instructors and test pilots from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is now being trained on the Hawks built for India by BAE Systems.

After an excruciating delay, decks have finally been cleared for the formal launch of the 'mother of all defence deals': IAF's long-pending quest for acquisition of 126 multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA).

The RFP (request for proposal), to be issued to the six contenders in the race to bag the deal valued upwards of $6.5 billion, is now ready in all respects, with the contentious and complex 'life-cycle costs' and the 30% 'offset' clause being worked out in great detail.
