Government forces battling Islamic extremists in Somalia have gotten help from the US Navy.
At least one destroyer opened fire last night on a mountain village where militants have set up a base.
The regional government says the extremists moved in this week but because of the rugged terrain, his troops have been unable to clean them out.
The destroyer is part of a coalition naval task force based in the Indian Ocean that patrols the Somali coast looking for international terrorists.
Without confirming details of the operation, a Pentagon spokesman says the US works closely with allies to "identify, locate, capture, and, if necessary, kill terrorists." |
