India : IAF Technicians Begin Hawk Maintenance Training

The first batch of Indian Air Force (IAF) technicians who will be trained by BAE Systems on how to maintain the IAF's Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft have arrived at the company's Warton site in the United Kingdom.

Over the next few months, the IAF technicians will visit the UK to get an understanding of how to maintain the aircraft. The tuition will continue when they return to India with a further three month on-the-job programme at the Indian Hawk's main base at Air Force Station Bidar.

FRANCE SELECTS LOCKHEED MARTIN HELLFIRE II MISSILE TO EQUIP HAD TIGER HELICOPTER


The Government of France has selected Lockheed Martin’s HELLFIRE II missile system to equip its Hélicoptère d'Appui Destruction (HAD) Tiger attack helicopter fleet. The precision-strike missiles will be purchased under a foreign military sale for the French Army, which is fielding 40 HAD Tiger helicopters. The fielding is expected to be completed by 2012.

HCL bags $15 ml contract from Italian firm


HCL Technologies has inked a USD 15 million contract with Italy's Alenia Aeronautica to provide engineering services for improving the C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft.

Under the deal announced at the Paris Air Show, HCL will convert most of the existing structural design material of the C-27J aircraft into an electronic format and carry out most of the engineering activities that have been planned to support the industrial improvement of the aircraft production line.

The government on Monday made it clear that there was no move to cap the range and reach of the country's surface-to-surface missiles.

"There are no instructions from the government to defence scientists on missile development programme," Defence Ministry spokesman said, reacting to reports that India had decided to cap the range of long-range missiles to only 5,000 km distance.

India : Demarcation of Siachen should be on present control: Indian Army

The Indian Army on Sunday said any agreement with Pakistan on demarcation of Siachen glacier should be on the present control.

"Pakistan does not have any edge in Siachen. We are capable of guarding it. The army took control of the glacier on the sacrifices of hundreds of soldiers from 1984 and from then till now, we have consolidated and bettered our security set-up”, Northern command Lt Gen H S Panag said at a press conference at command headquarters in Udhampur.
