A four-member Chinese delegation, led by Bu Jiango, the Chinese embassy counselor in New Delhi, did not like the Indian Army camps at the 14,400 feet Nathula in Sikkim sharing border with China.

In a research trip to Nathula on Monday, Jiango said there should be shops displaying Indian and Chinese products instead of Army camps at the Serathang Mart and Nathula, which will help to improve relations between the two countries.

India : Indian Army going hi-tech to build modern warfare

The 1.1 million-strong Indian Army is going hi-tech to turn its troops into fighting machines of the 21 century, complete with the latest multi-function weaponry and uniforms with sensors to monitor their health parameters.

"We have put in place an action plan to modernise the armed forces in all dimensions. A project, code-named F-INSAS (Future Infantry Soldier as a System), has been taken up to train futuristic soldiers, equipped with latest weaponry, communication network and instant access to information on the battlefield," Chief of Army Staff General Joginder Jaswant Singh said.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch its communication satellite INSAT- 4CR as a replacement to INSAT-4C which was reduced to debris during its unsuccessful launch last year.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair told reporters here this week that the replacement satellite would be launched in September 2007.

State trials of the new cruise missile for Iskander systems are due to start next year, Land Troops commander Alexei Maslov stated on Friday.

"It is planned to complete defense sector tests in 2008 and hand it over for state trials," Maslov said.

India's much-talked manned mission to the Moon has reportedly been shelved. The symbolism of India embarking on a new frontier has been given up for some practical concerns. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has categorically reiterated that there will be no manned mission to the Moon. It's learnt that the high cost of the project is the reason behind the rethink.
