The Air Force is confirming a Patriot Missile was found in a Tampa area scrap yard.
Tampa Police received a call from workers who believed they’d discovered a torpedo on July 11th. TPD’s bomb squad unit was sent to Scrap-All Inc. on East 4th Avenue in Ybor City to investigate.
No one knows where the missile came from, but investigators say the device was not active and was missing its warhead and guidance chips.
An explosive ordnance was called in to transport the missile to MacDill Air Force Base, where it will be used for training exercises. Tampa Police and the Air Force say there is no need to investigate where the missile came from, because it was so old and posed no threat to the public.
After hours Wednesday, 10 News was unable to reach the owners of the scrap yard for comment.
