Sukhoi to present new Su-35 jet at MAKS-2007

The aircraft holding company Sukhoi will for the first time present its multi-purpose super-maneuverable fighter jet Su-35 at the MAKS-2007 air show, an adviser to the Sukhoi company’s general director, Alexei Poveshchenko, told Itar-Tass in an interview.

“The plane is designed to attack air and ground targets and surface ships with both guided and unguided weapons,” Poveshchenko said.

According to the company’s official the jet is based on technical solutions used in creating Russia’s fifth generation fighter plane.

“The jet has an upgraded airframe with a far longer service life – up to 6,000 hours in flight, or 30 years in service. The airframe was developed with the use of technologies reducing its visibility to radars,” Poveshchenko said.

Another major feature that distinguishes Su-35 from its predecessors – Su 27 – is the new 117S engine, designed and developed at the Saturn research and industrial association.

“In contrast to AL-31F engine the new one has a 100-170-percent greater thrust and a far longer service life,” the specialist said.

The jet is also equipped with a booster that allows takeoffs from improvised airfields.

The Su-35 weapons control system, based on the phased array antenna Irbis-E, is capable of identifying targets at unique distances – up to 400 kilometers, track up to 30 air targets and attack simultaneously up to eight air targets and four ground targets. In the longer term the plane’s combat parameters will be expanded considerably with new attack weapons.

Intensive testing of the Su-35 jet fighter will begin immediately after the air show.
