 Indigenous cryogenic stage tested



An indigenous cryogenic stage developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was successfully tested on the ground on Saturday for a long duration of eight minutes at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Mahendragiri, near Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu.

The test took place around 6.30 p.m. ISRO officials called it a good test. All parameters of the stage including its engine performed normally, they said. A

India : India will send astronaut into space by 2015: ISRO chief

India will send an astronaut into space on one of its own rockets by 2015 and embark on a manned mission to the moon by 2020, the country's space agency chief said on Friday.

Before sending an astronaut to the moon, the country will send the Chandrayaan-I satellite to the moon next year, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Madhavan Nair said.

Indian Police today arrested a lieutenant colonel of the Uganda Army when he was caught near an Indian army cantonment area in Jammu province of the strife torn state of Jammu and Kashmir.

In order to reduce stress in the armed forces personnel, the Union Cabinet on Thursday liberalised the leave travel facility and increased the emoluments for those serving in extremely high-altitude areas.

However, the extension of similar perks to paramilitary forces and making service terms more attractive for the Army’s promotee officers (regiment commissioned officers) have been referred to a Group of Ministers (GoM).

China has demanded the removal of two bunkers set up by the Indian Army on the Sino-Indian border close to the tri-junction of Sikkim, Bhutan and Tibet, an intelligence source said on Wednesday.

The demand comes close on the heels of the controversy over the continued presence of the Chinese army at Sumdorong Chu valley to the north of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

MiG-35 fighter to feature at Russian air show



Russia will get an opportunity to showcase its frontline MiG-35 fighter, a contender for an Indian Air Force (IAF) order for 126 combat jets, at the MAKS-2007 aerospace show in the suburban town of Zhukovsky Aug 21-26.

Global aerospace giants including EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, Finmeccanica, United Technologies, Safran and Rolls Royce will be attending the biennial show that was first held in 1992 and is considered in the same league as the Paris, Farnborough and Singapore air shows, the RIA-Novosti news agency said.
