With MiG 25’s gone, Sukhois to become eye in the sky




The Indian Air Force (IAF) would soon be getting new snooping capabilities along the eastern border with a squadron of Su-30 MKI fighters being prepared for special reconnaissance missions.

A year after the mighty MiG-25 spy planes were phased out of service at the Bareilly airbase, the latest fighters in IAF’s inventory are being fitted with Israeli reconnaissance systems that will help them look more than 300 km inside Chinese territory without crossing the border.

 Indian-made UAV To Become A Cruise Missile


Indian and Israeli companies have teamed up to convert India’s Lakshya pilotless aircraft into a cruise missile, sources in the Indian Defence Ministry confirmed.
The proposed Lakshya cruise missile would carry a payload of 350 kilograms up to 600 kilometers, and the project is already under way. The Indian government has sanctioned $150 million for the project, sources said.

The Indian Air Force is developing state-of-the-art infrastructure here, including a world class avionics lab, for the most potent fighters in its combat fleet - Su-30MKI squadron - in a bid to counter threats especially from China.

A modern tech flight hangar, the biggest in the country, is also coming up at the base which will house the Sukhois and other allied equipment for its servicing.

"Bareilly is strategically located, and we are in the process of converting it into a major hub for the Su-30MKIs," Chief Administrative officer of the base Group

IAF unveils Sukhoi's latest, most powerful baby


The Indian Air Force has constantly been updating the Sukhoi aircraft to suit Indian needs. Now, the ultimate in the series the Sukhoi 30 MKI Phase 3 is out.

The Sukhoi 30 MKI is a multi-role air dominance fighter, a generation ahead of the MiGs, Mirages and Jaguars that the air force presently has. The term multi-role defines the range of functions it can perform .

Kazakhstan, which houses the world famous Baikonur satellite launching facility, is looking for a tie-up with the Indian Space Research Organisation, including joint projects for construction of various types of satellites and training of engineers and specialists.

A five-member high-level delegation led by the Chairman of the country’s space agency, National Cosmic Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Talghat Mussabayev, is here for discussion with ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair and other officials.

India : Gen Deepak Kapoor assumes charge as new Army chief

Declaring that the Indian Army was on "threshold of transformation into an advanced weaponised force", General Deepak Kapoor took over as the 23rd Chief of the Army Staff on Sunday, holding out promise of undertaking modernisation more rapidly.

"My top priority would be to step up the pace of modernisation," Kapoor said in his first order of the day to officers and all ranks of the Army.

A delegation of senior Israeli army officers will visit the violence hit Kashmir in the month of October.

Sources said that Israeli army officers, during their visit to Kashmir, will undertake real time testing of the sophisticated equipment sold by Israel to the Indian army. The wide array of Israeli-made surveillance devices, ranging from unattended ground sensors and Hand-Held Thermal Imagers (HHTI) to Long-Range Reconnaissance and Observation Systems and the Battle Field Surveillance Radars and the Surveillance Grid have been deployed by the Indian army along its frontiers with Pakistan to keep a check on the infiltration of militants from the Pakistani side of Kashmir.

India : HAL, Canada's CAE ink joint venture for helicopter simulator training centre

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and CAE, Canada on Wednesday signed an agreement to establish a joint venture company that will open a helicopter simulator training centre in Bangalore.The company, Helicopter Academy To Train By Simulation Of Flying (HATSOFF), will be owned equally by HAL and CAE. The training centre is expected to begin operations in late 2008 by providing both civil and military helicopter pilot and maintenance training services. As part of the joint venture, CAE will design and manufacture one full mission simulator featuring CAE's

IAF inducts airmen


The Indian Air Force today inducted 372 airmen at a passing out parade at the air station in Tambaram near Chennai.

Dubbed as air warriors they took the modular pattern training for a period of nine months at the base. Among them were eight foreign trainees from Namibia, Mauritius and Cambodia.
