Arianespace, the Euro 980-million satellite launch service and solutions company, would be using Indian launch platforms for the first time in its ten-year collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), next year.
This is a step ahead in the partnership between the two space organisations. Arianespace is also optimistic about marketing the Indian GSLV and PSLV vehicles for international clientele by the end of next year.

Former president A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday proposed 'World Space Council' to make earth 'a clean and happy place to live for the whole of humanity' by circa 2050, at the 58th International Astronautical Congress-2007 here. He also suggested creation of an 'International Space Force (ISF)' for 'comprehensive space security'. In other words, keep outer space free of human conflicts, weapons and protect space assets. In a nutshell, his vision envisages solar-powered satellites, an industrial belt on the moon and a habitat on the red planet Mars.
Unveiling his 'World Space Vision-2050' to delegates on the penultimate day of the congress, the former missile scientist said: "All space-faring nations should come together to create the World Space Council to make peaceful use of space."

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will begin trials of the six competing multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) in June 2008 ahead of its proposed purchase of 126 fighters for around $10.2 billion to meet a longstanding requirement .
The three-month field trials will follow four months of technical evaluation by the IAF after rivals Boeing (F/A-18E/F), Dassault (Rafale), Eurofighter (Typhoon) Lockheed Martin (F-16), Russian Aircraft Corporations (MiG-35) and Saab (JAS 39 Gripen) submit their proposals by February 2008.
All six are expected to respond to the MRCA tender dispatched by the ministry of defence (MoD) last month via the respective embassies.

India will develop its own version of the Global Positioning System by launching seven satellites in the next six years, Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman G Madhavan Nair said here on Thursday.
The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), expected to be functional by 2012, will be used for surveying, telecommunications, transport, identifying disaster areas and public safety among others.

A photograph and an article in the state-run People’s Daily last week gave the world a glimpse of China’s new class of nuclear-powered attack submarines.
Faster, stealthier and exponentially lethal, the Shang (Type 093) class attack submarines are replacements for the first generation Han class boats that were famous for being the most noisy nuclear submarines in the world.

Indian Air Force has finalised plans to purchase new attack and heavy lift utility helicopters as part of measures to bolster air surveillance and air to ground fighting capabilities in the Himalayas.
As part of these new measures, IAF has procured and put sensors on board Unmanned aerial vehicles as well as its fixed wing assets and has been training hard on the concepts of waging battle from stand-off distances.
