India : '70pc self-reliant in defence acquisitions by 2010'

BY : PTI

India would become 70 per cent self-reliant in matters of defence acquisitions by 2010 and 90 per cent by 2020, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Balasaheb Vikhe Patil said on Friday.

Speaking at a CII seminar on "Defence Acquisition Programmes-Life Cycle Costing and Project Management", he called upon the industry and Ministry of Defence to work with an open mind for greater indigenisation and self-reliance.

"With the Brah-mos missile, we have proved to the world that we are capable of producing state-of-the-art missiles," Patil said. He suggested financial support from the Ministry of Defence and from the Defence Research and Development Organisation to help the Indian industry focus more on Research and Development.

For the targeted indigenisation, Patil called for greater synergy between various departments in the Ministry of Defence, the DRDO, Defence PSUs and private players.

Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff in the Ministry of Defence, Air Marshal AV Vaidya called for constituting a Project Monitoring team along with a project Management team to check cost overruns, a CII statement said.

He said life cycle costing and project management played pivotal roles in the success of India's defence acquisition programme and expressed satisfaction that greater attention was now being given to these aspects.

NOT IF TRAITORS LIKE MANMOHAN SINGH AND OTHER PIMPS LIKE ENGLISH MEDIA JOURNALISTS HAVE ANY SAY-THEN INDIA WOULD BE FOR4CED TO DEPEND ON FOREING HARWARE BECAUSE OT BRINGS PIMPM COMMISION TO THSE HARAMI TRAITORS WHO D3ECRY IDNIAN DRDO EFFORT TO UNDERMINE OUR INDEPNDECNE.

KILL MANMOHAN SINGH BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT SELF RELIANCE IN ANYTHING

THIS HARAMI MANMOHAN SINGH DIRECTED DRDO BASHING .

" DRDO have been under attack from vested interest -- namely lobbies pushing for foreign defence acquisitions - from both within the Indian Army, middlemen and foreign agencies who would not like to see India to produce major weapon systems ingeniously."

    great for DRDO.
But there are some people in the media -mostly english langauge ones earning bribe from american patrons -who ware bent on deriding DRDO. Take the example of this traitor ajay shukla of business standard of 12/2/2007 who is hell bent that drdo should not be given any more money-he is ofcourse getting money from Boeing to pimp americans.
web blog of this traitor- ajayshukla.blogspot.com
so are the media like toilet paper of india, indian express, economic times, economic express hinduistan times, and ofcourse british owned star tv and NDTv-thse all are typical inferioirity complex suffering indians whio lick their masters - angloamericans and do their bidding inside india .

why are are these pimps organisation like CII and FICCI being even allowed to spansor talk about govt. policy?/
(for example the president of ranbaxy one MR. Singh,, chairman of FICCi(mr singh of ranbaxy) at the time in 80s was vehemently opposing any defence increase or of of buying of defence equioments while asking for freidnship with china as desired by usa ain 80s). the same FICCi is making propaganda agasint DRDo and(with 6% of defence budget) and indian scintisits saying it has not kept the develpopmnet of innovations and kept the 50 yurs old mig 21 not in shape!.)

30 % dependance means 100% dependance on the critical components. This means that any war India might wage, it will be dependant on foreigners for these components. Indian research institutions should be better funded and structured to work faster and more efficiently. Anything foreign should be twice as good as Indian made before acquiring.

Achievement of Brhamos itself was with the help of Russian collaboration. There are things we still have to learn. Lets accept the fact. Accepting it will only increase our internal passion to be more self sufficient. Lets criticise but also appreciate the efforts of our scientist. Its true that we need to speed up a lot.

Avatar..please moderate your view. Even when Manmohan was not there, there were criticism about the DRDO..Don't forget that Army was made ready to accept Arjun under this government and also about the speeding up of LCA. Also the same Manmohan is one reason why we have money to fund our projects. Remember the early 90's when projects were not at all funded. Lets criticise as well as appreciate.-----I may be wrong----
But lets help each other...Like Gandhi said each one help one to make a better India..

Prem what you said is correct , critical technologies are sure to come in that 30% and also never had these words been kept in the past

India hater Edolphus Towns voted for the N-deal!
    October 13th, 2007 by truthprevails

This USINPAC seems to be a joke of an outfit. To use this disastrous one sided “landmark deal” as a benchmark to compare it with the pragmatic Jewish lobby is a terrible joke. So Sanjay Puri brags that we haven’t heard from Dan Burton lately due to USINPAC’s phenomenal lobbying. But of course the Dan Burtons and Edolphus Towns can take it easy if this is the kind of lobbying that USINPAC can pull off. Glancing at how those with a visceral hatred for India voted for the abominable Hyde Act, its interesting to see that while Burton and Cynthia McKinney refrained from voting, Towns actually voted for the deal!
