The Indian Air Force (IAF), one of the world's oldest, turned 75 on Monday with a pledge to attain greater heights through an ambitious modernisation drive that will see a quantum jump in its force levels and capabilities.
"Our vision is to achieve strategic reach, enabling our combat and support forces to deploy rapidly within the strategic boundaries that are in consonance with India's national interests," IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major said at a ceremonial parade at this sprawling air base on the capital's outskirts to mark the platinum jubilee.

For the Indian Air Force, the wait for advanced jet trainers is finally over. The IAF will get the first of the Hawk trainer aircraft bought from Britain by next month.
The trainer will fill the gap in specialised training of the IAF pilots. The IAF had bought 66 Hawks from the leading arms company BAE systems in 2004. According to the contract, the IAF will get 24 of these trainers in ready- to-fly condition while the others would be manufactured at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
The induction of the first Hawk will coincide with the completion of training of IAF pilots

Here’s a vision 2020 no one wants to talk about. An unknown hacker attacks the national power grid and manages to black out entire north India and messes with our cellular networks. No one knows what is going on.The prime minister comes on TV. Emergency is declared. India is under a cyber attack.

Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Fali H Major on Friday said that though depleting force levels was a matter of concern, the Air Force would turn the corner in another five to 10 years. “Everybody is concerned [over the falling squadron strength] but not worried. If it had not been revived, we would have been worried. Induction takes time as we are not buying off-the-shelf. Every air force has gone through this process,” he said at a news conference.
“At the same time we have home-grown tactics and doctrine, which still makes the IAF a credible fighting arm. We hope once all inductions and upgrades fructify, you will see a different Air Force in the next five to 10 years.”
