The duo, who are not related, are flight lieutenants in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and are among the 15 women who serve at this sprawling frontline air base in north India that has a little over 100 officers in totality.
"We're thoroughly enjoying our jobs," they said in unison.
Commodore Kishore Onkar Thakare has taken command of INS Shivaji, the premier engineering training establishment of the Indian Navy located at Lonavla. Thakare took charge from his predecessor Commodore S.M. Luktuke at a ceremonial parade held in INS Shivaji on September 28.
Thakare is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) Pune, the Naval Engineering College, INS Shivaji, the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the College of Defence Management in Hyderabad.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy in January 1979, Thakare specialised in marine engineering and in the submarine arm. He underwent submarine training at Germany and commissioned two SSK submarines, including the first Indian-built submarine.
The Indian Navy on Monday added a Russian made maritime reconnaissance aircraft TU-142 and an indigenously developed Environmental Survey Vehicle (ESV).
The TU-142 �Bear� aircraft, which is larger than the Airbus in size and weight, made its maiden landing at a naval base in Visakhapatnam, the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command.
