India : High-level Indian presence at Dubai Air Show

Union Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju will attend the Dubai Air Show which opens here tomorrow.
With India planning to organiZe a regular air show, the high-level delegation will meet the various facilitators and see the arrangements at the Dubai event.
India will have a high-level presence at the five-day air show, where both a high-level civil aviation and defence delegation are taking part, Indian consul-general Venu Rajamony told PTI.
13 Indian companies, including HAL will put up stalls at the show. The defence delegation will consists of vice chief of air staff.

India : Indian Army seeks next generation battle tank

The Indian Army has sought a new generation main battle tank (MBT) even as it reluctantly prepares to receive the homegrown Arjun tank that has been over three decades in the making.

'What we have today is mid-level technology. What we need is a tank of international quality,' Indian Army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor said Tuesday.

The Russians have apologised to India over the delay in delivering the aircraft carrier, Admiral Gorshkov.

National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, who is accompanying Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his two-day visit to Russia, revealed this today during an interaction with the media onboard Air India One.

Narayanan told reporters that Russian had not anticipated the 'problems' and came to know later that more repair work needed to be done on the 44,570-tonne aircraft carrier, which will be re-christened as INS Vikramaditya, once it is inducted into the Indian Navy.

India : India, Russia to co-develop transport aircraft

India and Russia on Monday inked a $600 million deal to jointly develop and produce a multi-role transport aircraft (MRTA) for their air forces and for sale to third countries.

The agreement was among four signed in Moscow after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two countries had last month signed an agreement on jointly developing and producing a fifth generation combat jet after Defence Minister AK Antony's talks in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov.

In a move that will dramatically improve its operational capabilities by day and night the Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed an order for a few dozen state-of-the-art long range Forward Air Controllers (FACs). India : IAF Hawks reach Bidar

Two Hawk Mk 132 Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft that left BAE Systems' Warton airfield in the UK on November 8, reached their intended destination, the Air Force Station at Bidar in Karnataka on Monday.

The Hawk trainers will impart stage-III training to the newly commissioned fighter pilots of the IAF at Bidar from June, a defence press release said.

The Hawk pair, flown by a crew of BAE Systems and IAF pilots, Wing Commander Pankaj Jain and Squadron Leader Tarun Hindwani, first landed in India at the Jamnagar airbase while ferrying from Muscat, their previous stopover, on their way to Bidar.

India : India, Russia agree to co-produce new aircraft for IAF

India and Russia today signed a an agreement for co-development and co-production of a new transport aircraft to replace the aging AN-32 fleet of the Indian Air Force.

The total investment for the project will be USD 600 million to be shared on 50:50 basis by both the countries.

The Russian contribution of USD 300 million would be paid out of the debt India owes to Russia under the rouble-rupee agreement.
