The first two Hawk advanced jet trainers destined to train the next generation of Indian Air Force (IAF) fast jet pilots have departed from the UK to their new home at AFS Bidar in India.
The two jets are the first of 66 Hawk aircraft to be delivered to the IAF as of part of a
Wreckage from an unknown Russian missile or UAV was found in Turkey on 8 November. The debris was discovered on the coast of Samsun near the Black Sea on the north side of Turkey and was examined by Turkish air force personnel
China’s destruction of an aging satellite with a land-fired weapon signaled an emerging “sea change” in the missile defense realm, meaning the American military must move quickly to fill “gaps and seams” that those weapons have created, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Kevin Campbell said. The U.S. military’s response to a Jan. 11 Chinese ballistic missile launch that destroyed one of its aging weather orbiters left much to be desired, Campbell, the dual-hatted chief of the Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command and the Army Forces Strategic Command, said during a Nov. 8 breakfast here.
IAF chief, Maj.-Gen. Eliezer Shkedi, spoke about the problematic issue of targeting terrorists operating from within the civilian population in crowded Gaza neighborhoods at a conference on terror and democracy at the Shaarei Mishpat Academic College in Hod Hasharon on Thursday.
"I would never give my troops an order to hurt civilians and children. We make every effort to hit the terrorists themselves and not the civilian population," he stated. Shkedi addressed criticism against the accumulation of civilian casualties resulting from IAF operations in Gaza.
Eyeing India's burgeoning defence market, US aerospace major Northrop Grumman Corporation has opened its country office here to showcase its range of military hardware and software.
'India represents one of Northrop Grumman's largest potential growth markets for defence products in Asia,' said John Brooks, vice president of business development for Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems and president of Northrop Grumman International Inc, at a media briefing here.
Amid signs of a diplomatic chill between India and Russia, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Thursday reportedly cleared the multi-role military transport aircraft (MRTA) agreement and other pacts to be signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Moscow next week.
Though there was no briefing after the CCS meeting, sources said the new Indo-Russian pacts basically dealt with measures to boost bilateral trade, energy cooperation and, of course, defence ties. The MRTA project has been in the pipeline for quite some time now but was stuck since Russia had earlier refused to purchase any aircraft under the scheme. But now, it has agreed to buy 100 of them, with India chipping in with around 50.
In what is perceived to be a significant boost to India’s air dominance, the indigenously designed and developed Astra beyond visual range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) is to be test-fired from the Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) most lethal airborne platform, the Su-30MKI long-range multi-role fighter.
Part of India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme that was developed by a team of defence laboratories led by the Hyderabad-based Defence Research and Development Laboratory, the Astra BVRAAM has the ability to evade radar and hit
South Korea's F-15K Slam Eagle fighter jets are operating normally and the country's plan to introduce more aircraft from Boeing Co. remains on track despite the U.S. grounding of its F-15 planes, Air Force and company officials said Thursday.
The U.S. Air Force has grounded all of its F-15 fighter jets because of worries over a possible structural failure of the model after a plane crash in Missouri early this month.
"The F-15Ks here are in normal service," South Korean Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Moon Chae-wook said.
Call it the warmth beneath the Indo-Russian chill. In the thick of a reported estrangement, the two sides are set to seal an agreement for the lease of two Akula class nuclear submarines to India.
This agreement will be the high point of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Moscow on November 10 – a reminder of the heyday of the Indo-Russian relationship. The Akulas will be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2008 on a lease of at least seven years.
Israeli acquisition of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is likely to drive Arab states into purchasing similarly stealthy fifth generation fighter aircraft
Stealth technology is poised to become a key feature in the next wave of fighter sales to air forces of the Middle East, but recent events reveal that it introduction could be much sooner than expected.
After completing a handful of major fighter acquisitions during the past decade, Middle East defence chiefs are now expected to focus on improving the strike capability of
