India : India, Israel decide to share intelligence

In the backdrop of increased al-Qaida activity in the region, India and Israel have decided to share intelligence on regular basis as part of efforts to fight terrorism jointly.

The two sides discussed ways to effectively fight the scourge as Director General of Israeli Defence Ministry Brig Gen (retd) Pinchas Buchris held talks with the top brass of Indian military here.

The Indian Navy, which is all set to float the long-delayed global tender for maritime reconnaissance aircraft (MRA), seems to have narrowed down its choice to the offering from the European consortium of EADS.

With two lines of thinking prevailing in the Navy, one to fulfil the short-term immediate requirements and the second for the long-term permanent solution, the pendulum for the latter seems to have swung in favour of the EADS.

HAL, BAE study JV to make Hawk jets



India’s state-run aircraft maker, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), and BAE Systems Plc., UK’s largest defence company, are in talks to set up a joint venture (JV) to manufacture the Hawk advanced jet trainers in India for the global market.
HAL already manufactures Hawk under licence from BAE for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Both firms are doing a feasibility study for the joint venture, which would also focus on doing repair and overhaul of the Hawk aircraft, sold by BAE Systems worldwide, wrote Ashok K. Baweja, chairman of HAL, in an email to Mint.
