BY : PTI

Indicating that another test of the country's most advanced nuclear-capable Agni-III missile is in the offing, top defence scientist M Natarajan on Sunday said the DRDO was close to developing a supersonic fighter trainer.

"Along with undertaking full development of the air force and naval versions of the LCA, we have developed the capability of making in the shortest time of next 10 years a supersonic fighter trainer," Natarajan said during an appearance in the show "In Conversation" on Doordarshan. The second test of the Agni-III was in the offing, he said. The first launch of the missile last year was a failure.

The Indian Air Force will shortly order an additional 40 Hawk advanced jet trainer aircraft to be based in Kalaikunda, Bengal, where a new base to train its fighter pilots is to be set up.

Kalaikunda is likely to be the second base after this north Karnataka town that will groom a new generation of fighter pilots beyond the era of Soviet-origin MiG-21 aircraft that have been the air force’s mainstay despite being outdated.

India : Air Force gets radars to deal with bird hits

BY : Yahoo Web Services India

There have been six fighter plane crashes in four years, and all due to bird hits. To tackle with this problem the Indian Air Force is now investing in bird radars.

When a bird hits a plane flying at supersonic speed, the impact is enough to damage the aircraft's control permanently.

Three years ago that is exactly what happened to Sqn Leader K R Murthy when his MiG 21 crashed at the Bangalore airport, killing him on the spot.

World over the aviation industry suffers a loss of $1.5 billion every year because of

China copies Su-27 fighter, may compete with Russia - paper

China has built a domestic copy of the famed Su-27 Flanker fighter and may compete with Russia on third-party markets if it sets up the full-scale production of the plane, a Russian daily said on Thursday.

China has acquired 76 Su-27SK fighters from Russia since 1992, and bought a license for production of another 200 planes in 1995, in a deal worth $2.5 billion.

"Since 1996, the domestic version of the Su-27 aircraft, dubbed J-11, has been produced at the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) with the use of Russian components," the Vedomosti newspaper said.
