The radar blip that led to a mid-air scare as the special aircraft carrying Prime Minister Manmohan Singh prepared to land at Delhi airport last night, was caused by an IAF Dornier aircraft, which was flying "behind and above" the VIP flight path, official sources said on Wednesday.

The Dornier plane was in "no way on the flight path of the PM's aircraft," sources in the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said quoting preliminitary investigations into the incident.

India : Indian AWACS Moving Forward on 2 Fronts

BY : Defense Industry Daily

“India’s Air Force Looks to Enhance Its Reach With Upgrades & Force Multipliers” discussed India’s growing shift toward aircraft that would give it the ability to patrol and act at extended ranges. In January 2004, India and Israel signed a $1.1 billion contract for 3 Phalcon airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft, as part of a $1.5 billion tripartite agreement with Russia. The Prem PS-90 engines in the upgraded IL-76TD aircraft will make operation in India’s hot climates easier, and the system will also reportedly make heavy use of Russian electronics, including a partial glass cockpit.

Israel Aerospace Industries’ Phalcon system is built around an ELTA EL/M-2075 AESA L-band radar, then adds electronic and communications intelligence gathering (ELINT and COMINT) capabilities. The system can also receive transmissions from other air and ground stations, and uses sensor fusion to provide a complete picture of the

India is set to sign a $2.2 billion deal, its biggest with the US, for eight long-range maritime reconnaissance (LRMR) aircraft, even as the Indian Navy chief opposed ''intrusiveness'' in the use of military hardware the country purchases.

Negotiations for the purchase of the Boeing-P8I LRMR aircraft are in the final stages and are likely to be wrapped up during Indian Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta's visit to the US that began Sunday.

The agreement for the purchase under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route will

India : Delhi won’t extend jet tender deadline

BY : IANS

India’s extended deadline for opening bids for the country’s biggest defence deal for 126 combat jets valued at $10 billion expires 28 April and no further extension will be granted, an official said today. “The matter has been discussed at the highest level. The deadline expires 28 April. No request has been received for extending this and it will not be granted even if it is received at this stage,” the official told IANS, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Asked whether some of the foreign manufacturers in contention might seek another extension on the ground that the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) enunciated in 2006 was being fine-tuned, the official said this would have little bearing on the

India : More fighter jets for Pak doesn't worry IAF

BY : TNN

Pakistan may be getting more spanking new F-16 fighters from US and JF-17 'Thunder' jets from China but IAF is not scrambling for cover. It remains quite confident of its war-waging capability.

"Every country has its own perception of its defence requirements. Pakistan’s acquisitions do not disturb us too much or give us sleepless nights," said Western Air Command (WAC) chief Air Marshal P K Barbora, talking exclusively to TOI.

But what about the fact that IAF is haemorrhaging with a free-fall in the number of
