India : New warship INS Kesari commissioned at ENC

For the frst time in the history of the Eastern Naval Command a ship belonging to the Landing Ship Tank Large (LSTL) class was commissioned at Visakhapatnam. INS Kesari, the fourth ship of the Landing Ship Tank Large (LSTL) was commissioned at the naval jetty by Governor Narayan Datt Tiwari. The commissioning of the ship conceded with the International Maritime Day.

India : India ready to export missiles to shortlisted countries: DRDO

India is ready to export missiles to countries whose names are cleared by the government, top DRDO scientist S Prahlada said here disclosing that trade inquiries had been received from at least five nations. "Government, in principle, is in favour of exports of missiles," he said, adding Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is in a position to meet such sale orders.

Though Prahlada did not name the missiles which could be offered in world market but sources said that India could place Indo-Russian supersonic cruise missile Brahmos and recently tested surface-to-air Akash for sale. A U.S. Air Force B-1 bomber caught fire Friday after a landing at al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, U.S. military officials said.

A sweep-wing B-1 bomber, similar to this one, caught fire after landing Friday in Qatar, the U.S. military says.

Indian Navy will induct long range Maritime Patrol Aircraft to enhance its capability.

India : Sea warriors pass out in style

The passing-out parade of artificer apprentices of Indian Navy and Yantriks of Coast Guard was held here today.
A total of 140 artificer apprentice and 18 Yantriks of 2008 batch passed out from the portals of the training establishment after a rigorous basic training curriculum, making them confident sea warriors.
The trainees will now be deputed to various training schools for professional courses, which will enable them to man the frontline ships, submarine and air squadrons of the Indian Navy.
Commanding Officer, INS Chilka Commodore MVS Kumar reviewed the passing-out parade and awarded trainees who excelled in various disciplines.

Boeing Begins Final Assembly of 1st P-8A Poseidon


Boeing on Monday began final assembly of the first P-8A Poseidon for the U.S. Navy. The P-8A will provide increased capability in long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

The start of final assembly follows closely on the heels of Spirit AeroSystems' delivery of the first P-8A fuselage to Boeing in Renton, Wash. Mechanics loaded the fuselage into a tooling fixture and began installing systems, wires, tubing and other small parts. Boeing will join the P-8A's wings to its body later this year.

Africa : End of the runway for Cheetah fighter jets

It was the end of an era for the SA Air Force (SAAF) on Wednesday when the Cheetah fighter jets were decommissioned.

The Cheetahs are to be replaced by Gripen fighter jets, which will arrive between now and 2012.
