India : India to acquire 22 attack helicopters

In a bid to strengthen the offensive prowess of its armed forces, Indian government has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to acquire 22 attack helicopters.

The RFP document, which includes offset clauses, was issued last week to major global helicopter manufacturers who were given three months time to respond, sources said here.

Confirming this, a senior Eurocopter official said "we have received the RFP and are looking into it. We have to reply by August." "We will be participating in the bid process

India : IAF aircraft to be equipped with new missile warning system

The DRDO and European Aviation and Defence Systems (EADS) have successfully developed an advanced missile warning system for IAF aircraft and will start its serial production in Bangalore soon.

Announcing this during the ongoing Berlin Air Show, the Netherlands-based EADS said it looked at India as a manufacturing hub from where the technology could be exported to other interested countries.

EADS has so far supplied 24 out of a total of 36 sensors for integration with Indian Air

European aerospace consortium EADS today invited India to be a part of its prestigious Eurofighter upgrade project, saying it would help Indian companies enhance their skills in the aviation field.

The company, which has bid for the Indian Air Force's mega deal for induction of 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA), said if India joined this prestigious project, it would become the fifth country and the first outside Europe to be part of the project.

The Indian Air Force, or IAF, will buy 15 Saras aircraft, the indigenously-developed civil plane of the National Aeronautics Laboratories, or NAL, to replace its ageing German Dornier fleet, beginning next decade.
IAF currently uses the Dornier 228 built by India’s state-run aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, or HAL, under licence since the 1980s from Dornier Gmbh, a German plane maker that no longer exists. HAL is the only firm to make these planes in the world.

Russia ready to offer Algeria MiG 35 fighters


Russia is prepared to offer Algeria new MiG-35 Fulcrum fighter aircraft to replace the MiG-29 Fulcrum aircraft due to be supplied under a contract terminated earlier this year, the MiG Corp. CEO said Wednesday.

"We are currently in negotiations on delivering our fighter aircraft, including MiG-35s, to Algeria," Anatoly Belov said.

Russia to start Yak-130 trainer deliveries to Algeria in 2009


Russia will begin deliveries of new Yak-130 combat trainers to Algeria in January 2009, the plane's manufacturer said on Wednesday.

"We have a contract with Algeria to supply 16 aircraft," Oleg Demchenko, head of Russia's Irkut aircraft-manufacturing corporation, said at the Berlin Air Show ILA2008. "We are planning to start deliveries in January 2009."

He said Irkut had secured orders for a total of 150 Yak-130s from other countries

India : Scorpene project runs into rough weather

After the Russians failed to stick to the deadline for readying aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov for the Indian Navy, it is now the turn of the French to let India down. The Rs 18,798-crore Scorpene submarine project has run into rough weather due to delay in technology transfer.

The navy may not be able to induct the first submarine by the 2012 deadline, with the French yet to part with crucial details of technological know-how, including design and drawing documentation. A senior navy official confirmed to HT on Tuesday that the project had been delayed by a year due to “teething problems”.

India : Flight testing a unique profession: P.V. Naik

Flight testing is a unique profession that requires a mix of operational experience and a good foundation in advanced science and engineering, Air Marshal P V Naik Vice Chief Air Staff said.

Air Force Test Pilots School (AFTPS), which started to keep pace with India's growing aviation and aero space needs and requirements 35 years back, has produced 260 qualified test crew till date who are involved in many indigenous aircraft and system development programmes,he said in his address to test crew on graduation of the 30th flight test course here on Saturday.
