India : Russia to deliver first four MiG 29K by September

The first four ship-borne Russian-made MiG 29 K/KUB fighter jets, purchased by India for the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, will be delivered to the Indian Navy in September, a navy official said Tuesday. “The first four of the 16 MiG 29 K/KUB will arrive in the country in September and the pilot training has been completed for these aircraft,” the official said.

The jets were purchased by the Indian Navy as part of the $740 million contract signed in January 2004 for Admiral Gorshkov, which has been renamed INS Vikramaditya.

Rotajet Systems has followed up its success in supplying around 70 of its aqueous- based industrial cleaning systems to the UK’s armed forces, with a new order, the first from the Indian air force, for a Rotajet D40 machine to degrease aerospace components. The system is fully automated and uses an aerospace industry approved cleaning agent supplied by Rotajet, overcoming the problem of using VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) on site.

Incidents of animals straying onto the Dr Ambedkar International Airport runway has become a routine thing nowadays.

A major mishap was averted after a pig (wild boar) was crushed under the wheels of an Air India IC-736 Bangkok-Nagpur-Hyderabad flight with almost 27 passengers were onboard at about 7.30 pm on Tuesday. Sources at airport informed that pig was crushed when the flight was taking off for Hyderabad.

The Boeing Company last week began using a moving assembly line for final assembly of the P-8A Poseidon in Renton, Wash. This military derivative of the Next-Generation 737-800 is expected to move through the final assembly process at a continuous pace similar to commercial 737s.

"This is another important step toward delivering the first P-8A to the U.S. Navy on schedule," said Bob Feldmann, Boeing vice president and P-8 program manager for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. "The entire team is working extremely hard to meet our commitment to the customer."

After the Russians and the Americans, with whom the Indian armed forces have issues over delays or conditions attached to their military equipment, it is now the turn of Israel to slip behind schedule for the delivery of high-tech hardware for the Indian Air Force.

A source in the Indian Air Force has confirmed that the delivery of the first Phalcon will be delayed. It was expected in September but is now more likely to reach India only at the end of the first quarter of 2009, disrupting the Indian Air Force’s force-building plans.

Algeria asks Russia to swap MiG-29s for Su-30 fighters - paper


Algeria has asked Russia to deliver between 14 and 16 additional Su-30 Flanker fighters in exchange for the MiG-29 Fulcrum aircraft it was supposed to receive under a contract that was terminated this year, a Russian business daily said.

"The Irkut corporation may deliver 14-16 Su-30MKA fighters [to the Algerian air force] for the same amount stipulated in the MiG contract," Russia's Kommersant business daily quoted a source in the defense industry as saying.

Russia plans to start exports of light helicopters in 2009


Russia will start exporting Ansat light multipurpose helicopters in 2009, a helicopter industry official said on Friday.

The Ansat, a light multipurpose helicopter developed by the Kazan Helicopter Plant (KVZ), is capable of carrying a pilot and nine passengers. It has a maximum take off weight of 3.3 tons, a maximum payload of one metric ton, and a cruising speed of 250 km/h.

India : Indian Navy To Order Another Aircraft Carrier

The Indian Navy will place an order for another aircraft carrier with the Cochin Shipyard, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta said here Friday.

The navy is now reaching a stage when it would prefer to have aircraft carriers rolled out at regular intervals. The order for the next one will be placed after the one being built at the Cochin shipyard is commissioned, said Mehta.

The navy is also seeking a long-term production arrangement with the Cochin shipyard for the purpose, he added.

The Boeing P8I maritime patrol aircraft the Indian Navy is on the verge of acquiring in a USD 2.2 billion deal will give it a marked edge in the Indian Ocean region and one that is comparable to its US counterpart, the aircraft`s manufacturer says.

`This will be the first time the Indian Navy will be able to operate a platform almost simultaneously with the US Navy,` Richard Buck, Boeing`s international programme manager for the P8, told a group of visiting Indian journalists at the company`s production facility here.
