Boeing Delivers 1st Fleet EA-18G Growler



The Boeing Company delivered the first fleet EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack (AEA) aircraft to the U.S. Navy's Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129 on Tuesday at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash., ahead of schedule and within budget.

Boeing previously delivered five EA-18G aircraft to the Navy's flight test community.

India : BAE joins IAF blame game on Hawk spares

Even as Indian Air Force cries foul over spares supply by its UK suppliers, BAE Systems has put a question mark on the optimal utilisation of Hawk advance jet trainers fleet by the services. Sources talking to FE on condition of anonymity said that, "There will be serviceability problems. The Indian Air Forcedid not order the required spares until very late and not all those spares have been received yet because of long lead times for manufacturing."

India : RFPs for Navy's multi-role aircraft to be issued

India will soon initiate a process to acquire medium-range multi-role reconnaissance aircraft (MRMR) to boost its naval capabilities.

"The request for proposals (RFPs) will be issued any time now. The Director General for Acquisition at the Ministry of Defence has already approved the RFP," official sources said.

Asia&pacific : US approves 10 F-16 to Pakistan

The United States Congress has agreed to provide ten F-16 fighter planes to Pakistan, which would conclude the deal of twelve F-16 planes.

The first batch of four out of ten F-16 would reach Pakistan during current month whereas four would be provided in July and two would be provided later.

India : India to invite bids for indigenous LCA engines

India will soon invite bids for developing a more powerful engine for the homemade Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas as the development of the indigenous Kaveri engine is yet to be completed, an official said Wednesday. Tejas, meant to replace the ageing MiG-21 fleet of the Indian Air Force (IAF), is currently under development in Bangalore for the last couple of decades.

“A committee has been constituted and it is in talks with international players for developing a more powerful engine for Tejas. A RFP (request for proposal) in this regard will soon be issued,” an official of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Asia&pacific : Russia to test aircraft carrier for India's navy in 2011

The Russian Sevmash shipyard said on Tuesday it planned to test an aircraft carrier currently being modernized for the Indian navy in 2011.

India contracted the $1.5 billion Admiral Gorshkov for its navy in 2004. After long-running delays and disputes, Russia and India agreed in February to raise refit costs for the aircraft carrier, berthed at Sevmash in north Russia for the past 12 years.

India : No deck to land aircraft, navy eyes dummy

The Indian Navy is set to get the first of its new-generation aircraft carrier-based aircraft, the MiG-29K, this month with no vessel on which to land it or none from which it can take off.
