F-35 Offers Multirole Surprises

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) will “redefine the concept of multirole strike” aircraft, Lockheed Martin officials say, but they offer few details to flesh out that claim.

Still, while the future concept of operations, electronic attack (EA) capability and derivative options remain undefined, at least publicly, some capabilities can be picked out of their purposely vague descriptions.

Starting from the notion that new hardware is the least likely addition to the aircraft

India : Blacklisting companies delaying weapons' procurement: Naval Chief

BY :PTI

Apparently peeved at the practice of blacklisting of companies after allegations of kick-backs, Naval Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta on Saturday said the procedures involved needed to be amended as it leads to delays in acquisition of urgently-required weapon systems.

Speaking to reporters, he hoped for early nod from the government for procurement of additional Barak missiles from Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd, an Israeli company which is under a cloud of suspicion following allegations of kick-backs.

India : China says it has no intention to encircle India

BY : China.org.cn by Hou Xiaoying

Responding to concerns from India and the West about China's plan of building ports in South Asia, Zhang Yan, the Chinese ambassador to India, said in a luncheon held by the Asian Association in Hong Kong on June 18 that "India is our partner. We never intend to encircle India as it does not abide by the interest of the Chinese people."

"China is not attempting to control shipping lanes in the Indian Ocean. Saying China is taking an encirclement policy is invalid," he said.

Agence France Presse reported that thousands of ships, fully loaded with goods and under Chinese flags, traverse the Indian Ocean to bring the cargo to the European market every year. Ambassador Zhang stated that China does not protect the

India : IAF wants DRDL to refine Akash

BY : THE HINDU

Three months ago an order from the Air Force for a substantial number of the Akash medium range, surface-to-air missile (SAM) system seemed just a few bureaucratic signatures away.

However, with the Air Force communicating to the Defence Ministry that the missile does not, in its present version, meet some critical operating requirements, the acquisition process could be longer than expected.

The all-weather Akash, developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) is part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
