China is developing new radar and other sophisticated systems to find and target U.S. radar-evading stealth aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning, F-117 Nighthawk and B-2 Spirit. China watchers in Asia and the United States have seen an increase in China’s anti-stealth research and development, and procurement and manufacturing of passive, bistatic high frequency and long-range radars.
Russia will demonstrate the latest MiG fighter at the 2007 Le Bourget International Air Show outside Paris, a defense industry official said Tuesday.
The MiG-29M OVT (Fulcrum F), a highly maneuverable air superiority fighter, was unveiled for the first time in August 2005 during the MAKS Air Show outside Moscow.
Sukhoi will present its new plane, the SuperJet-100, previously called the Russian Regional Jet, or RRJ, at the Le Bourget air show in France on June 18-24.
The jet's body is undergoing static tests at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) in Zhukovsky outside Moscow. Its engine, the SaM146, is a joint product of France's Snecma (Safran Group) and Russia's Saturn. It will be ready by the end of the year, when the jet will make its maiden test flight.
The Sukhoi Su-30MKM are not replacements for the MiG aircraft but will complement the squadron in protecting Malaysian air space, said Malaysian Chief of Air Force Jen Datuk Seri Azizan Ariffin.
He said the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) would continue to deploy the MiG aircraft in its operations to protect the air space against external threat.
Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Chief Jen Datuk Seri Azizan Ariffin said the Sukhoi Su-30MKM multi-role fighter jet is a tactical and strategic asset to RMAF as its ability to cover long distances puts it on par with the air forces of neighbouring states.
"The Su-30MKM will act as a deterrent to parties that try to threaten the sovereignty of Malaysia," said Azizan when signing an early acceptance certificate for the delivery of two Su-30MKMs (M52-01 and M52-02) from representatives of Russian state corporation Rosoboronexport and the Irkut Aircraft Corporation here today.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force will receive the first two of its Su-30MKM jet fighters in late May this year. Itar-Tass news agency quotes Sukhoi officials as saying that the Southeast Asian country will receive another lot of four planes by late 2007.
"By late 2007, Malaysia will receive another four planes," the Sukhoi official was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
