Japan will conduct its first test firing of land-to-air missile interceptors in the U.S. in the coming months, an official said Friday.
The Defense Ministry plans to conduct the test of PAC-3 Patriot interceptors at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico during the next fiscal year, which ends March 2009, the official of the Defense Ministry said.
Mainichi, a major Japanese daily, reported that the test could be in late 2008, but the official said the ministry is still considering the timing. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing policy.

Just days before Britain’s defense secretary stood up in Parliament and apologized to the families of 14 crew members killed in a 2006 crash of an aging Nimrod reconnaissance plane in Afghanistan, his chief civil servant made an admission of his own new cost problems have emerged on the aircraft planned to replace it. Quizzed by members of the parliamentary Defence Committee about progress on some of Britain’s key military equipment programs, Bill Jeffrey, permanent undersecretary, admitted that while cost controls were improving, there was one standout project: the Nimrod MRA4. “Nimrod is certainly giving rise to in-year pressures this year. It is the one significant area that we are having to attend to now,” he told the committee Nov. 28.

IAF chief, Maj.-Gen. Eliezer Shkedi, spoke about the problematic issue of targeting terrorists operating from within the civilian population in crowded Gaza neighborhoods at a conference on terror and democracy at the Shaarei Mishpat Academic College in Hod Hasharon on Thursday.
"I would never give my troops an order to hurt civilians and children. We make every effort to hit the terrorists themselves and not the civilian population," he stated. Shkedi addressed criticism against the accumulation of civilian casualties resulting from IAF operations in Gaza.
The Red Arrows are set to unveil a new aircraft paint-scheme this week as they leave the UK on a six-week overseas tour. The change to the world-famous design is thought to be the first major permanent alteration since the Red Arrows took delivery of their Hawk aircraft in 1979. “The Red Arrows’ Hawk aircraft are known and loved by millions of people around the world.” said Wing Commander Jas Hawker, Red 1. “We needed to keep a careful balance between making our famous aircraft unrecognisable and reminding people that we are proud to represent the Royal Air Force. This is especially important when many Royal Air Force personnel are away

TWO Russian strategic bombers flew close to a NATO summit on an "unusual" practice run yesterday, according to Norwegian military sources.
Lt-Col John Espen Lien said the flight - by two Tupolev 160 strategic bombers - followed a course near the Norwegian coast and between Britain and Denmark, before turning back some 120 miles north-west of the Netherlands, where NATO defence ministers were meeting in the city of Noordwijk.
France, conceding defeat in a bid to sell advanced fighter jets to Morocco, has decided on a radical overhaul of the way it handles major arms export negotiations, French officials said on Wednesday.
The shake-up comes after talks to sell advanced Rafale fighter jets to the kingdom broke down amid reports of a fumble over the cost of the 2 billion euro ($2.85 billion) deal and its financing. Morocco will buy U.S. F-16s instead, industry sources say.
The shake-up was disclosed by officials accompanying French President Nicolas Sarkozy on a three-day trip to Morocco. The visit yielded rail, frigate and energy deals for France but not the sale of 18 Rafale fighters that Paris had wanted.
