A400M reaches final assembly line

Europe's first production example of the Airbus Military A400M tactical transport has moved into final assembly, with delayed work on aircraft MSN 001 having commenced in late August.Pictured with its nose section and main fuselage barrel in jigs on EADS Casa's A400M final assembly line in Seville, Spain, the aircraft is the first of five which will be used to support flight test and certification activities from mid-2008.

Work on the aircraft had been scheduled to start by late March, but was pushed back

MoD and Saudis to sign £20bn contract for Eurofighters within weeks



The Ministry of Defence expects to sign a £20 billion contract with Saudi Arabia to supply 72 Eurofighter Typhoons within the next four weeks, The Times has learnt.

Negotiators are understood to be working towards an agreement before the month of Ramadan starts in mid-September and the deal could be completed as early as the end of this month.

The Lancashire-built Eurofighter Typhoon could be converted to operate off a pair of 65,000-ton aircraft carriers.
Defence giant BAE Systems has not ruled out the possibility of created a "navalised" version amid fears the F-35 Lightning II jets, proposed to fly off the £3.8 billion carriers, will not be ready in time for 2012, when they are proposed to be ready to set sail.

Austrian Defense Minister Norbert Darabos announced June 25 he would be cutting the number of Eurofighter jets that the country was ordering from European aerospace giant EADS.
The order as it stands is for 18 of the fighters, under a contract signed in 2003 by the then conservative OVP government. But the deal has since come under scrutiny amid allegations of bribery.
