Final trials of Arjun tanks next month: Antony


Fourteen Arjun battle tanks will undergo final trials in Rajasthan's Thar desert next month, prior to their formal induction in the Indian Army, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here Friday.

The government had placed an order for 124 Arjun tanks in March 2000 worth close to Rs.18 billion - for induction into two armoured regiments. The tanks are being manufactured at the Heavy Vehicle Factory at Avadi near Chennai.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force will receive the first two of its Su-30MKM jet fighters in late May this year. Itar-Tass news agency quotes Sukhoi officials as saying that the Southeast Asian country will receive another lot of four planes by late 2007.
